Small Groups

And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching. -Hebrews 10:24-25

In a large church like Grace, small groups give people a chance to really get to know others and to be known. They give a person an opportunity to develop the values we hold dear to us as a church. Small Groups provide a space for developing intentional relationships with those ahead of us in the Christian journey who can help us in following Christ, those alongside us as peers in a similar maturity level and those behind us who benefit from our example and support in their lives.

The vision for Grace Covenant is: to see thousands saved, healed and passionately following Jesus. What better place to see this happen than in smaller groups of people who care for one another, challenge one another, pray for one another and serve one another in a variety of ways. Imagine the new friends and new opportunities waiting for you in a small group!

• What types of groups are available? As you scroll through the current small groups, you’ll note we have lots of different types of groups. They meet at different times, different days of the week, different frequency, etc. Most of our groups are open to any adults in any season in life. Some are for men or women only or people with particular interests (college, 60s’ plus).

• What does a normal group meeting look like? Every group is different but most groups include time for personal sharing, bible study, prayer. They usually last about an hour and half and most meet in the home of the leader. Most groups include between 8 – 14 adults.

• Are all the groups open to join? Most of the groups are open but some are temporarily closed as they are so “FULL” of people they are unable to accommodate new guests. Look under “Status” for the groups you are interested in to see if they are currently “OPEN” or “FULL” and contact those that are OPEN.

• How long am I committing for? Any participation will be valuable. Typically we find that Groups often ‘renew’ about once a year giving those in the group a chance to consider if they want to continue meeting with that group. Whether you’ve been in the group a month or 1 year when the group’s annual renewal happens, it may be a good time to make an intentional decision about committing going forward.

Joining a small group can feel very overwhelming. If you’ve never participated in a group like this you’re likely to have lots of questions and potentially to wonder if it’s even worth trying. Here is my encouragement for you.

First: Review the available groups here on the website. The majority of groups are open but you’ll note under “Status” that a few groups may be “FULL”. These groups are unable to receive new people because they are already packing out the place they meet! Please look for other groups that are listed as “OPEN”.

Second: Pray and ask God to direct you to a group to check out.

Third: Reach out and contact a group (under the Search Small Groups tab). Simply click on “Contact Group Leader” tab, provide your name and contact information and a simple message such as “Tell me more about your group please!” Remember, these leaders are excitedly anticipating contact from you!

Fourth: Jump out of your comfort zone and visit the group during a time that works for you. It may work best to visit more than one group before committing to the group. Take a friend with you if you want.

FINALLY: Contact Mike Souder, Associate Pastor responsible for small groups at msouder@gcch.org or 540-433-9244 for further help.
